Last week on Friday, Jon and I went on a hike around Buntzen Lake. It was such a gorgeous hike, I love British Columbia so much. A little bit about Buntzen Lake; it's a man made lake. It was created by BC Hydro to create hydroelectric power to Vancouver whereas before the city depended on a 1,500-kW steam plant for power. If you look closely in to the lake you can tell that it was dug out. For about 30 feet it slowly started to get deeper then suddenly just drops. Other than that little detail (and the rushing water out of holes), Buntzen Lake looks pretty normal, especially because of all the natural beauty surrounding it.
The specific trail we took was the "Buntzen Lake" trail at 8km. It took us under 3 hours to complete, the suggested timing is 3.5 hrs. It's a fairly easy trail except one part about 2/3's of the way in where it's a lot of uphill. you really gotta remember to keep hydrated for that area! I'll post some photographs soon in my 'photography' section.
Next trail we want to hit up is the Eagle Bluffs trail. We'll see how that goes!
